Mission Statement

At present the Central Coast's Traditional Latin Mass Community of Saint Junipero Serra is served by Fr. Hughes Beaugrand at the request of the Most Reverend Richard J. Garcia, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Monterey in California.

The Traditional Latin Mass Community of Saint Junipero Serra serves those members of Christ's Faithful who worship in accordance with the traditional Latin Liturgy (or Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite) of the Catholic Church. The Sacred Liturgy is celebrated with the Roman liturgical books of 1962. Not merely its lawfulness, but the continued importance of the traditional Latin Liturgy for the faith and life of the Church, already
affirmed by St. John Paul II in 'Ecclesia Dei,' was further emphasized and guaranteed by Pope Benedict XVI, in 'Summorum Pontificum.'

The traditional Latin Liturgy is centered on God as its core. The Traditional Latin Mass as it has developed through the centuries, under the gentle influence of the Holy Spirit, bears treasures of language, music and ritual that raise our hearts and minds to the presence and action of Almighty God, in order to praise Him and to witness to the Gospel message given to us by Christ
Jesus our Savior.

Message from Fr. Beaugrand
Saturday, we will celebrate the dedication of the Basilicas of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. It is a special feast where we remember the day of their consecration by pope Silvester I. On Nov. 9th we celebrated the dedication of Saint John Lateran also called Archbasilica of Christ the Savior, Cathedral of Rome and mother of all churches. 9 days apart, what does it mean? Three basilicas in a week uniting Our Lord to the 2 apostles of Rome. Of course, the basilicas you can admire nowadays are not the one admired by Middle-ages pilgrims as they were destroyed by fire. Nevertheless, Church continues to remember the dedication the same days. It is noticeable that every single bishop, usually by country, has to go in Rome for a Quinquennial visit ad limina apostolorum which they require to go and venerate the tombs of the apostles. Bishops usually say mass these 2 basilicas. That has to be done every 5 years. Last time the USCCB went was in 2012.

Our Heart is in Rome. We are romans even if we never went in Rome. It is important for us to know history and to know the city of Rome. It is much easier today thanks to internet. We should be able to have a map of the City and find all major basilicas according to the journey of the apostles. It is our history and our faith. “How terrible is this place! This is no other but the house of God, the house of Heaven.” Gen, 28, 17.
